What makes us unique

Southwest Baltimore Charter School, a Title I school, seeks to provide each child with the tools necessary to live a fulfilling, productive life. Our school embraces many of the Expeditionary Learning principles and practices. The rigorous Expeditionary Learning school model is engaging and student-centered. Expeditionary Learning cultivates students' love of learning, curiosity, and critical thinking skills. We believe that academic success in the classroom is integrally linked to life and opportunities outside the classroom. SBCS is the intersection at which a child's academic, family and community lives come together to create a learning environment that is challenging, supportive and fun.

How To Apply

• TO APPLY FOR GRADES K-8, SEE BELOW.  THE APPLICATIONS FOR PRE-K WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL THE SPRING OF 2021.  Please contact the office at that time.

  STEP ONE:
  Complete a Pre-Enrollment Lottery Application for each child applying to SBCS. The paper application can be found here or you can apply online by clicking here and completing the form. The SBCS admissions lottery for the upcoming school year will take place in February 2020. Pre-enrollment applications for the admissions lottery are being accepted from November 1, 2020 - February 3, 2021. Please complete a separate application for EACH child applying to the school. If you do not apply online, applications should be completed in blue or black ink and may be hand delivered, mailed, or faxed to:

  Pre-enrollment applications are accepted throughout the fall and winder.  To be entered in the lottery, applications MUST be received no later than February 3, 2021 by 4 p.m. Pre-enrollment applications not received by 4 p.m. on February 3, 2021 will be placed on our wait list and considered only if space becomes available. All applicants will be notified by mail of the admissions lottery results in March of 2021.

  STEP TWO:
  If your child has been chosen from the lottery, you will be notified by mail. You must complete and return the Letter of Acceptance no later than April 3, 2021 in order to confirm your child's placement. If your child has been placed on our wait list you will be notified by mail.  The wait list letter will explain the wait list process and state your child's wait list placement number.

  STEP THREE:
  Once you have returned the Letter of Acceptance form you will receive by mail dates for orientation and registration. Orientation is mandatory.  After attending orientation, you will receive a registration packet with forms to complete and return. Questions?  Email us at sbcs@sbcschool.org.
