Job Description

Reporting directly to the Instructional Director, the Principal for the Carroll Creek Montessori Public Charter School performs the following duties:
Collaborates with the Governing Council to implement the school improvement plan.
Coordinates maintenance and implementation of the instructional program.
Monitors the curriculum based on the Montessori pedagogy to assure consistent program implementation and articulation within the school.
Monitors the use of instructional methods and materials.
Coordinates efforts to determine program needs in the school with the Governing Council.
Communicates program needs to the Governing Council and the Superintendent or designees.
Identifies, directs, and coordinates the collection of evaluative data in the school required by FCPS and the Montessori curriculum.
Collaborates with and supports Special Education department as required by FCPS
Develops the school schedule.
Assigns staff to classes.
Arranges for the procurement of substitutes.
Evaluates staff and assists in employing new staff.
Works with the Staffing Committee to interview candidates and makes employment recommendations for professional and support staff.
Coordinates the observation of teachers.
Coordinates continuing assessment of supporting services.
Evaluates staff assigned to the school.
Establishes supplementary guidelines and standards for student behaviors based on the peace education from the Montessori Philosophy.
Makes final school decisions on serious discipline problems based on the peace education from the Montessori Philosophy.
Makes recommendations on extended suspensions and expulsions based on the peace education from the Montessori Philosophy.
Coordinates school attendance procedures.
Coordinates the school staff development program.
Coordinates and conducts the school community relations program.
Coordinates the preparation of newsletters and press releases.
Works as a part of the Governing Council and other advisory groups, other parent or community support groups.
Directs the coordination of outside use of the school facility.
Oversees the development and organization of the school co-curricular program.
Oversees the care and maintenance of the physical plant.
Organizes the development of the county school budget and the internal school budget by working with the Governing Council.
Coordinates the provision of school pupil services and community services.
Assists in the provision of school food services.
Oversees the provision of school transportation services.
Oversees school administration functions.
Oversees completion of required federal, state, and local reports.
Approves, disapproves, or revises requisitions for purchases.
Monitors the school budgets and provides information to the Governing council on a regular basis.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Currently holds, or is immediately eligible for MSDE Administrator II certificate.
Demonstrated knowledge of Montessori theories of instruction and curriculum development.
Strong skills in the areas of leadership, organization, management, group dynamics and budgeting.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues and community members.
Capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

Minimum Education Level

Currently holds, or is immediately eligible for MSDE Administrator II certificate.
Currently holds, or is immediately eligible for Montessori Administrator/Leadership certificate. (Obtain within 3 years of hire)

Experience Required

Minimum of three years of successful school administrative leadership experience, one year of experience as an Assistant Principal.
Montessori trained.
Demonstrated success in leadership positions.

Carroll Creek Montessori Public Charter School (CCMPCS) is a public charter school that is operated by a non-profit organization, Monocacy Montessori Communities, Inc. (MMCI) within the Frederick County Public School system. CCMPCS offers a Montessori-based learning environment based on the Montessori Method as well as Spanish instruction for all students. As a public charter school, CCMPCS is free and open to all residents of Frederick County. CCMPCS especially encourages families who are native speakers of Spanish to apply

CCMPCS’s mission is to build a community in which students, parents, and staff work together to educate the “whole child,” the sum of the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual parts.
