The Baltimore Sun article dated February 15, 2017 titled “Baltimore schools CEO: No commitments yet from State House, City Hall to close funding gap” mischaracterized the funding of charter schools vs traditional schools. By attributing the funding difference between charter and traditional schools to meals and buses, the Sun oversimplifies the issue and fails to address its complexities.  Charter school funding is guided by state law.  By definition, charter schools receive more direct funding, and fewer centralized services, to allow charter schools the autonomy to run innovative programming models for local public school students. Comparisons between charter and traditional school funding, which fail to take into account this distinction are simply misleading and inaccurate.

    Public Charter schools across the city will be hosting Baltimore City elected officials throughout the week.  School visits will feature an opportunity for Baltimore City's newly elected officials and the new administration's staff to visit public charter schools in their districts.   • Maryland Charter Schools Advocacy Day | February 24th, 2016

    Join Us for Maryland Charter Schools Advocacy Day on February 24, 2016 from 9:30-12:30.

    We'll meet at the State House Gallery (100 State Circle) to be announced by the Speaker. Advocacy Day is an opportunity to meet with legislators and let them hear from the students, families, teachers and supporters of Maryland's charter schools. There are 50 charter schools in Maryland that serve over 15,000 students in Maryland, across five counties.
